Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 10/01/2006

Number: 1

We were sailing Sunday, October 1, 2006, from Smith Creek at its juncture with the Potomac River off Kitt's Point and up the St. Mary's River from Kitt's to St. Mary's College. During our sail, we counted 72 monarch butterflies, which all seemed to rise from the water. Some flew around our boat and through the slot between the jib and the main. Along one section of the St. Mary's River, we saw a clutch of about 30 all at once. Fantastic!
