To contrast the sighting of Paul Linden in Greensboro, NC on Sat. 9/30, I wanted to report one monarch butterfly that pretty much hovered over the baseball field at Grimsley HS all (10am-5pm)day! The sky was clear and the temp. in the hi 70's, very mild breeze. It's movements reminded me of the hawks that spiral on thermals only this butterfly baseball fan stayed below treetop range.
I have seen more monarchs this fall since mid-Sept. than I have seen in several years altogether. Usually I see 3 or 4 total, one at a time.
