Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/03/2006

Number: 1

I was driving yesterday south on Route 22 in NY from about Westport NY to Crown Point and over the Crown Point bridge (over Lake Champlain) into Addison County VT - that whole distance (about 20 miles)is very close to the shore of Lake Champlain. The fall New England Aster was in full bloom and just about the only wildflower left. There collectively must have been many hundreds if not over 1,000 monarchs on the aster. Every patch of the flowers were fluttering with monarchs - mile after mile. What a wonderful sight! But are they too late? We have a hardfrost predicted for Thursday.
