While Point Pelee is reknowned for outstanding birdwatching and butterflying, as well as for large clustering during the fall migration, this year was a disappointment. The largest number seen at Pelee and recorded at the Nature Centre was on September 27th when about 3300 roosted in the park (as per Sarah Rupert, naturalist).
Sarah wonders if strong westerly winds prevented monarchs from reaching their area, and the monarchs simply headed south further east.
