Signs of Fall

Date: 10/10/2006

Number: 1

It sounds like a early spring around here this week despite the russet and gold landscape! A hearty band of robins, around 30, have taken over the willow tree by night. They spend the whole day attempting to strip my Junkque Crab of it's golden mini-Delicious apples. My poor car is taking a beating! I wouldn't think a serious fruit diet would be good for the digestive system! I'm sure they are migrating but evidently not till my huge tree is empty! I dug it out of a junk yard one autumn over 20 years ago. It is huge now. It is pink with blossoms in the spring and golden as the leaves drop due to it's wealth of fruit. I've never seen one like it. The killdeers are gathering; they even continue their chatter all night thanks to the full moon's bright light. The redwing blackbirds are beginning to gather, but not with the abundance of song as in spring.
