The monarchs appeared in the thousands along the Dry Frio riverbed on Friday, October 13th. They were gathering and resting on the tall pecans and oaks on the riverbanks. They were not nectaring, even though we have a butterfly garden that was full of sulphers, skippers, fritillaries, swallowtails, snoutnose, and marine blues. The weather was misty and cool. They gathered together on branches and only flew when disturbed. It was truly an amazing sight. We had a front blow through over the night last night (Oct. 15th) and they were gone. We took pictures while they were here but the light was dim as it was shady amidst the trees. We will try to e mail you pictures when we can. It was truly a "Disney" special experience for all of us.
