Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/11/2006

Number: 1

I observed an immature hummingbird at my residence yest erday (11 October, 2006). As a biochemist and ornithologist familiar with hummingbird species breeding in Arizona, I would probably identify the vagrant as a Rufus rather than an Allens, based upon the completely rufus back and typical sound while in flight. Bird was somewhat skitish. Will try for a shot today.
