We were in Florida
birding at St. Mark's NWR on the Gulf Coast, and we saw more butterflies
there than we had ever seen. Most were monarchs, but they were not on the move; they were feeding at the flowers in bloom all along the roadsides for several miles. There was at least one butterfly or skipper
for every square foot of bush. I couldn't focus on birds at all.
Is it a good year for the monarchs, or have I just been lucky?
