Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/17/2006

Number: 1

I have been driving all over town the last four days ... several times a day ... 197 miles so far (saved my gas money for Oct! 192/gal) ... and have found monarchs moving all day from NE to SW from the far east side of town to the north side of town. The feeling I get is they are crossing Lavaca Bay along the entire shoreline right now, not just at the causeway this week, and the direction of some are coming from the last two days, they may also be coming from the north shoreline of Matagorda Bay after the big winds we had. The flights of monarchs in the heavy fog this morning was pretty amazing, I don't know how they lifted off! These monarchs are large and seem darker than in previous years ... the "darker" is what is different. Does a week earlier make them darker?
