Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/20/2006

Number: 1

We're having a heavy peak migration here or I am in just the right spot. The Monarchs have been flying over at the rate of about 50 an hour around my house and in the general area south of Houston for the past 3 days. We have Monarchs here, but they are lower to the ground and eating leisurely; whereas, the migrating Monarchs are 30' or more in the air with a different flight pattern and if one comes in for a quick snack,it doesn't stay looking for more before it leaves. Texas City, TX was plentiful with Monarchs yesterday and Le Marque, TX was heavy this morning between the rain showers.
