October 17th:
German film crew began filming on bluff above the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass---1000 in the group of big trees on Simpson St.
October 18th:
A few hundred still in trees on Simpson St.
October 20th:
60 monarchs in trees at my house. 12 mi. N Eagle Pass.
October 21-23:
No monarchs in my trees at Radar Base. Breeze from north for several days now. Cool.
I am surprised at the sudden drop off in numbers. In past years there would have been a few small clusters 40 to 100 night after night, after the leading edge passed. We're still seeing many more queens drifting around, than monarchs in dedicated flight.
