Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/30/2006

Number: 1

It was very warm, mid-90s, with a strong south wind blowing. I walked outside to be sure water was in the birdbath and was engulfed in a monarch snowstorm. They were fluttering and floating, also many were resting in the deep shade of the old trees that provide a canopy in our back yard. There were probably 100-200 of them. They were fewer in number the next morning but many were clustered together in the trees, roosting I presume. Diminishing each day, we had them in our yard for a week or so. A gift!
