Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/14/2006

Number: 1

The most exciting sighting I have ever seen hundreds, thousands of butterflies , flying overhead at about 10 to 20 feet, a trail about 8 to 10 feet wide... just above the neighborhood roof lines, right through my back yard, they were flying south. Mostly Monarch's, but there were also lots of other types of butterflies mixed in with them, they were floating on a wind current. I watched the trail for about 15 minutes, it then began to lessen in numbers to only a dozen at a time, till only a few. Simply delightful to watch. And very interesting to see the way they were just floating in the wind current, it seemed it didn't take any effort for them at all. I only wish I had a video camera at the time.
