Sixty 3rd graders planted 60 red emperor tulips according to the Journey North protocol. The temperature of the soil was 55 degrees F. The air temperature was 45 degrees F. We planted 40 experimental red emperor tulips. We only changed one variable from the JN protocol. We had a fabulous time and digging in the soil helped to reinforce our standards on soil.
