Here in Clearwater, near the gulf, i observe Monarchs
pretty much year round. Everywhere i spot milkweed, i see Monarchs or the
effects of their caterpillars. I've only been observing for about 5 years now, and
we haven't had a really "cold" winter during that time...
Just today i observed at least 3 individuals nectaring on my Lantana bushes,
and at the moment i have only two milkweed plants in my yard.
I feel that i'm observing "resident" populations. I've never noticed an influx of
Monarchs during migration time.
It is frustrating that there isn't a lot of information available about Monarchs in Florida.
Everyone concentrates on the migration and on their return to the North. Rightly so
i suppose, even more so if the majority of our Monarchs are resident.
