Oklahoma had STRONG, NW winds around 21 mph,, with gusts to around 32. Temps were around 50 degrees, overcast. Monarchs were literally being blown out of the trees. I was finding them on the ground, stunned, unable to fly. I easily picked up about 20 of them, put them in a cage, and released them later yesterday afternoon, when the temps went up, and the sun came out. Most looked pretty fresh. Two were dead with their wings badly torn.
I have never had that experience before. Was glad that I was home, and able to bring them out of the strong wind for a while, and give them a chance to warm up.
