My first grade class and our 4th grade Reading Buddies planted our tulips. Mrs. Armstrong's 4th grade collected the data that I am reporting to you.
The following are their observations:
We planted our tulip bulbs on a slope facing east. The slope is at the front of Great Oak School beside but not under the Great Oak tree.
The temperature in the fall in Danvers, Massachusetts goes up and down. In the morning it is cold; it heats up in the afternoon and cools down at night. This morning we woke up
to a frost! The temperature was 29F.
We are approximately 20 miles from Boston and 2-3 miles from the Ipswich River. We are located on the North Shore of Boston only a short distance from the Atlantic Ocean. We have a local pond called Mill Pond. In addition, we have the Danvers Reservoir which supplies drinking water
for neighboring towns.
By participating in this project we hope to learn about the life cycle of tulips, when spring arrives in different parts of the Northern Hemisphere and to beautify our school.
On a personal note, we ,as classroom teachers, took on this
project as a way to integrate technology into our science
and social studies program.
