Enjoyed a beautiful sunny day out for some birding. Spent the biggest part of the day walking on my aunts farm that is directly behind our property. She owns approx 350 acres and is a 84 yrs young & still enjoys gardening, birding, & hiking.
I was surprised to spot a group of 15-20 Yellow-rumped Warblers roosting & feeding in some aromatic Eastern Red Cedars. They were feeding on the dark blue cones 1/4" - 3/8" in diameter which are soft, juicy, sweet & resinous.
I observed them for 2-3 hours feeding and fighting for the best territory on & around the trees. There were a few fox sparrows who tried to move into the trees to feed but were quickly dispersed from the area.

Also observed a very large Red Shouldered Hawk soaring & hunting for field mice, rodents, rabbits ect ... He eventually moved on over to the adjoining farm to try his luck there.

Overall it was a very enjoyable day to be out during the last days of Indian summer. Sadly the days are getting shorter which means
