Have you ever held a hummingbird? I have! The "beauty" who journeyed to my feeders on 10/12/06 was banded by Nick Pulcinella on 11/21/06. Nick confirmed that she is a very healthy, juvenile (born in June or July) female rufous. She's the second rufous to ever be banded in Delaware County, PA. Hopefully, when "Buffy" resumes her journey, another researcher/bander will intercept her -- to gain some insight into her unusual migratory path. After the banding, Nick placed her in my hands, she "squeaked" and flew into the woods...what a thrill. She's still here!
