Hello from Mr. Gullickson’s 6th grade sciences classes at Seven Oak Middle School in Lebanon, Oregon. This is the third year our school has participated in the Journey North International Tulip Study. This week we plan to have completed our planting of approximately 85 tulip bulbs in our Journey North Student Garden.

Our school is located right in the middle of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Our community has a population of approximately 14,000 people. Our community receives more than 50 inches of rain each year.

This year we will be monitoring soil temperatures and moisture conditions in our garden using LEGO robots. Our robots will be traveling along a raised track system we our installing in our garden. Our robots will be designed, built, and programmed to stop at predetermined spots, lower probes into the soil, then measure and record information. We currently have one robot working in our garden. We will be sharing our garden information with others in our school, community,
