American Robins Spotted on Harlem School Campus

Mrs. Lumpkin's third grade class saw many male (red-chested) robins on our playground playing on equipment for children and in trees. They were making their feathers all rough and fluffy. Many were hopping around, flying around, or standing in a tree. We saw at least one robin jumping along the running track, one in the field in front of a fire hydrant, one inside our gazebo, and one was inside of the giant blue plastic hippo's mouth. We were lucky enough to see one close up when it landed on our fence and a tree that stands about 5 yards from our porch. The one that sat in the tree was giving one of its calls. For today's sightings, we bundled up and observed from our school porch in 52 degree F weather. Today is windy, chilly, wet, and gray. We took turns watching them with binoculars. This is a true report from Mrs. Lumpkin's 3rd grade class.
