Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/01/2007

Number: 1

We were seeing an occassional monarch out and about up until Christmas when it finally began to get cold. The last multiple sighting was on January 14th. We were still getting monarch eggs on the backyard curassavica at that time. January was actually very cold and very wet here along the Texas midcoast. We had two mornings where it got to 31 dF all the way to the north shore of Lavaca Bay. We had almost eight inches of rain and only four days that could truly be called sunny in January ... one stretch where we had fourteen days with rain, drizzle, or mist. The farmers are hoping for dry weather because they are wanting to get into their fields ... corn should be planted in about three weeks IF it warms up enough as this appears to be a BIG corn year.
