For the third year in a row, I found myself at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in late January, enjoying their population of overwintering Monarchs. This year, however, I saw more of these beautiful butterflies than I ever have before, most-likely due to the installation of their new butterfly garden. There were probably at least a dozen of them frequenting the Butterfly Weed and Buddleia in this special area. Interestingly, for my first time ever at these gardens, I noticed several smaller, darker Queen Butterflies flying amidst the Monarchs. There was even a Great Egret snapping his bill at these wondrous "flying flowers"! (Fortunately, he missed.) It was all so magical...I could barely tear myself away. Fortunately, I got several nice photos of the Monarchs and friends as souvenirs of my experience.
