Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 02/03/2007

Number: 1

Am not positive about the date but this is pretty close. The robin was singing in a hickory tree in our backyard.

Confirmed Song
yes, it was the regular Song he was singing. We have those Cornell Ornithology plush birds and that's closest to the song I'm most familiar with from those. It's wonderful that you post various other songs robins sing - I've always thought the "Seee" song of the robin was an actual hawk. Now I'll have to pay closer attention.

The hickory tree he was singing from is normally covered with mourning doves (it's closest to a large feeder) so that may not be his actual site. On the other hand it's directly above a large flower bed and a veggie garden so there are lots of worms that are easy pickin'! We have robins (and earthworms) all year round but have had lots of waves, too. I hadn't realized the lack of vocalization til I read it on your site. I've learned a great deal from the Journeys. I now track ruby-throats, monarchs and whooping cranes (I was devastated by this years' brood's deaths.) You are all doing a fabulous service.
