The familiar "cheerio" song has now been reported to us from several Audubon members throughout our valley.
After seeing so many birds around our feeders (about 60 redwings now habituate our yard…..along with 21 other species) I began wondering if anyone else in the Valley had heard robins singing. I sent the request to the Econet webmaster, who forwarded my request to experienced birders throughout the County.
I immediately received replies from expert, longtime Audubon birders who had apparently been hearing the “cheerio” robin song even further north of our home. Other birders, who live along our road, have had similar experiences noting a lack of robin song along the riparian zone. In fact, the best qualified naturalist I have ever met, just emailed saying he has heard robins singing higher up in a canyon for weeks. Without this assistance, we would still be waiting for our first robin song.
