A report of 5 monarchs seen at Fort Macon State Park, NC by Randy Newman, park ranger on 4 Jan. This is farther north than I would have thought monarchs would be able to winter. The park is very near the ocean (no doubt significant moderating effects of surrounding waters on air temperature) and about midway the NC coast (32o41.43’N, 76o41.77’W). Contributed by Billy McCord
