Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 01/22/2007

Number: 1

"My" Rufous Humminbird over the 6 winters that I've had her (them?) here has surivived 16 degree nights with days never reaching as high as freezing, has bathed in sleet falling on her as she sat at an icy feeder, has skidded across ice as she tried to drink from my dripper, has sat on an exposed branch with snow coming down all around her, has frequently slurped slushy ice-sugar water from a very cold feeder, and only in the worst of weather, has she actually sat and basked in the heat at the feeder that is always heated by a heat lamp. They are amazing birds!!
