Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/03/2007

Number: 1

I woke up this morning to the distinctive call of the red-wing. At first I thought it is bizarre, I have been around these birds all my life and I don't ever remember seeing one while there is snow on the ground. But, reading the information on this site is appears that this is normal for the males to fly back north at this time. It is below the freezing point of water, the pond in our backyard is frozen. Should I worry about the bird finding water? Thank you
