Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/03/2007

Number: 1

Two monarchs were seen eating from stattice. The day was sunny and temperature was between 26 and 29 degrees C. I can always tell when the monarchs are coming through. The flowers in the garden suddenly seem to perk up. The milkweed plants are growing up rapidly. My plants live for up to three years if the get enough water, so the two year old plants are snapping back quickly. I hope to have some caterpillars soon! My students love to see them.

March 20, 2007 Update
Mass migration sighting!

We have had a lot of monarch activity this week. We have seen thousands of monarchs today. I am attaching some photos. Obviously the density isn't as great as in the fall, but this is the first time we have gotten pictures of the monarchs roosting in the spring.
