While on a late-afternoon walk through a beautiful stream valley, my husband and I distinctly heard two male Red-winged Blackbirds singing from the cattails where the beavers had dammed up the stream. We tried to sight them, but failed. Still and all, though, it was a sight for sore ears to hear them singing so vigorously on-territory, signaling winter's ultimate demise.
