Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/14/2007

Number: 1

March 14, 2007 They are back!! I've been waiting and listening every day. I was up early today getting ready to go and check the sap buckets in the sugar bush when I hear them... my favourite song of early spring! The red wings have returned to the big pond behind the house and they are singing away... sounds like a half dozen males have returned overnight. There is still snow in the bush and the ice is still solid on most of the pond, but there is water running on top of the ice as the snow melts. It is +3C this morning and we are expecting rain later on today.
