Throughout the winter, we've been watching some spots way behind our house where river otters appeared to play, sliding up and down a snowy, icy embankment. The last place we expected to see an otter was in the pond across the street in front of our house, but that is where we saw one otter twice in 3 days. Right in front of the beaver's lodge, in the same hole where a beaver popped out yesterday, the otter was out this morning. He seemed to be just sliding around on the ice and into the water. His long, shiny body was followed by a long skinny tail and his movements were undulating.
After he popped into the water, we spotted him sitting on top of the beaver's house- the same house the beaver appeared to be pulling sticks out from under yesterday.
