Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 03/16/2007

Number: 1

Hundreds of SINGING Robins in the Hackberry trees. This WAVE is enjoying the left over berries of this tree.

the best song seems to be "ZEE-UP." There were hundreds of Robins so it was hard to be sure. All calling at the same time. I was out in this area often so the birds seemed to not be bothered by my being there, but on one special moment, I went out towards the tree area. All of a sudden, every bird quit singing, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. It was dead silent. Then, as if choreographed, every bird flew out of the area without a sound other than the whooshing of their wings. Amazing!

The Robins spent most of their time up in the trees for a couple of days. When they had stripped the Hackberry trees of the berries, they went to the ground to retrieve the berries which had fallen. Now that most of those berries are gone, so are most of the Robins. Now I have only a few pairs remaining.

My Mother lives just across the street and there are a few Hackberry trees behind her house. I asked her if she had ever experienced this many Robins before? She said NO and she was just as amazed. Growing up here and living back in Decorah for 4 years, I have not see such.

Following the Monarch Butterfly migration for many years, I know that weather patterns can slightly shift the migratory path. This is what I presume this to be.
