Number: 1

Black chinned hummingbird sighted at hummingbird feeder from a distance of three feet. I clearly viewed the dark purple irridescence of the throat and heard the chirring (sort of a whistling buzz) of the wings that identifies this species. This species is closely related to the Ruby throated hummingbird. The Ruby throated passes through this area but I have yet to see one. The Black chinned breeds in this area of central Texas and can be seen from March to October.
