Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/17/2007

Number: 1

These swallows built a nest on my covered front porch in 2005. 2 batches of babies later, they left in the Fall and to my delight they came back the next year and now this year too. They did not seem frightened when I went out on the porch to greet them - they sat in their nest(I have left it since the beginning) and they just looked at me. Maybe they remember human voices. Last year they left on labor day weekend(2006.) They are now part of the family. I had not seen any swallows or martins in my neighborhood and was getting worried about them. So relieved they showed up during my breakfast on the porch.
