All Other Signs of Spring

-around 7:30 this morning I saw four muskrat, out on the ice, but close to the shoreline, on Lake Monona, near Hudson beach. Each muskrat was sitting at the edge of a small opening in the ice, about 3 feet diameter, and each muskrat appeared to be feeding on seaweed or some other plant material. Since there is no evidence of the typical muskrat lodge, I am guessing that these animals live in smaller burrows along the shoreline, and for some reason they were out on the ice today. Maybe the food supply was more plentiful away from the shore.
