March 28 2007. I heard the nighthawk for the first time this spring last night. We were boiling down the most recent batch of sap... and there it was... it was a very warm day. The sun dried up a lot of the puddles from the melting snow yesterday. There are lots of cluster flies just waking up from their winter sleep. I saw several bald-faced hornets outside and there were even a few yellow jackets buzzing around. There were also two mosquitoes looking for a quick meal... the nighthawk will have lots of food!
