Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/06/2007

Number: 1

On the way back to Abilene yesterday, every plant had both eggs and 1st instar caterpillars. Buds were larger and almost ready to open in just 3 days. The area had recieved upwards of 7" of rain recently.

Plants had between 9 and 15 ramettes and I counted 9 eggs on one of the larger plants. The ramettes were from just a few inches in height to 14", starting to spread out from the center and lay along the ground with the weight of the budding heads.
