Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/09/2007

Number: 1

Dad and I went out and looked in the field April 1st and we found a lot of milkweed plants. We looked at them closely and we found monarch eggs. On the 5th we collected 18 eggs because an artic cold front came through and we didn’t want to loose them. When we woke up on the 8th there were 5 monarch larvae and two more hatched during the day. We are keeping them in plastic containers and all 7 are doing just fine.

We are going to keep checking the field and collect eggs when they are ready to hatch. Dad and I built a nice cage where we can keep the caterpillars in when they get bigger. This is so much FUN!!!
