Wow! What a spring we have had. Our tulips began a strong emergence about two weeks ago. We had approximately 40 of our 105 tulips opening. The weather was very warm and much happened while we were on spring break! One tulip emerged over break and grew 21 cm! They were huge! We measured widths of 10-16 cm on our flowers and our leaves number 5 - 6 and we even had multiple flowers coming from one bulb! The kids were amazed. We still had many tulip yet to bloom and some plants still emerging and growing. It depended on their location around the school...then the winter weather returned and our tulips are bent over, "burnt" and struggling. We have not been outside much to view them often because it has not been weather to be out in for very long. It is so sad and the kids are so disappointed but it's been a good lesson in how plants can survive even if they can't produce the "fruit" the way they would have.
