Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 04/14/2007

Number: 1

The weather scattered rain showers with sometimes cloudy spells with sun breaks in between. That first sighting was a male rufous hummingbird. He came to the stained glass at the window, so I put out the feeder. The hummingbird was solo, no others around. The next morning was stormy, in the pouring rain, the hummingbird sat on the bare tree branches near the feeder and swayed with the wind. So awesome to see. There was wet snow this morning but by afternoon it is mild again. I hear a few more hummingbirds (mostly males this time of year)on the hillside where the blueberries buds are starting to appear.

first bumble bee yesterday Spring showers with sun breaks in between. Record snow levels receding quickly. Red Robins in flocks of 2 dozen. Skunk cabbage shoots peeking out. Some blueberry branches sticking out of snow but most are still buried under snow, quickly melting so berry buds will be numerous soon. Saw 1st flock of swans 2 weeks ago, geese are going north too.
