Very warm weather in March prompted the budding and flowering of most of the pear, cherry, red bud, and many shade trees. Then on Friday the 13th of April, we got rain followed by almost a foot of wet snow. This was followed by temperatures in the mid to lower 20's for three nights in a row. Freeze damage was not total. However, most of the pear blossoms froze, the red bud trees don't look very good, and many of the shade trees will have to begin anew with their growth for the summer. This uses a lot of energy and many trees that were already suffering from our extreme drought for the last few years will probably die. Very sad situation.
