Was rather surprised to see a large butterfly this early. The weather has been nice but we had frost about a week ago that stopped almost everything. After watching for a few minutes, I thought "that moves like a monarch". It was about 60 feet up in and evergreen tree looking to roost for the evening. Could not get close enough to identify by markings. I am going by the color, size and motions. Been watching for 50 years and after a while you become familiar with the flutter and glide pattern of the species. We had a very strong south wind (50 mph) yesterday. It must have used that for a tail wind.
