Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/23/2007

Number: 1

Here in Kingfisher, Okla., the freeze was not as extensive, most of my milkweed in my garden was in a more protected area, and though small was not affected by the freeze. My plants are heavily laden with eggs and small cats. Most of the milkweed in the area was not up that I've found. We've been having 70 degree days with alot of warm southerly winds, so I feel that the milkweed should be starting to come up. The A. speciosa in the ditches had previously been under water. I have not been able to check this weekend.

I have been seeing at least 2 faded females per day in my garden several times per day hunting for plants to lay eggs on, and at least 1 male per day this last week. Occasionally, the Monarchs do not appear very faded, but have not been close enough to get a good view. My few plants remain heavily laden with eggs, even though I have been bringing eggs in.
