All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 04/20/2007

Number: 1

I have seen so many signs of spring, with the birds being the most obvious. We have had orange crowned warblers, ruby crowned kinglets, rufous hummingbirds, and more and more, they are in pairs. The migration of the songbirds is very evident, with new species showing up at the feeders almost daily.

The salmon berry bushes now have the first little pink flowers, and some of the trees are beginning to leaf out. Still waiting for the cherry blossoms! The raspberry bush is begining to leaf out, and the blue berry bush is out of bloom, in leaf.

One of the first signs of spring in SE Alaska is the skunk cabbage, and we saw some the last few days.

I have seen ravens carrying nesting materials, and bald eagles perching near their nest!

I have yet to see a robin carrying nesting material, and have diligently been watching to see if robins are nesting near our yard! Nothing definate yet!
