Date: 04/23/2007

Number: 1

A monarch larval adoption was held on Saturday, April 21, at the Clinton Community Nature Center (Clinton, MS) for specimens rescued ahead of mowers from fields in the area. More than 50 people showed up to claim larvae and a bag of milkweed they will use to care for the specimen until it is ready to release as an adult. The Center has a small field with a few dozen milkweed plants that had no eggs or larvae until Monday (April 23)afternoon when a female dropped in and left 11 eggs on Asclepias viridis. A. tuberosa and A. variegata are both available in the same fields but no eggs were deposited on these species.
