The first of my volunteer tulips bloomed today. I found they had emerged only 12 days ago, when the snow covering their bed finally melted and they had already grown to be xx inches tall.

(Technically I should not report on these tulips because they were planted in the fall of 2005, not last fall. Also, they are on the south face of our house's foundation!)
