Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/26/2007

Number: 1

Please explain to me why I would have seen a full adult monarch floating above the water, heading towards the harbor at Woods Hole on what seems like a very early date to be seeing monarchs- April 26, 2007. It was leisurely flapping towards the harbor dock, about 5 feet above the water.

This seems very early for us to be seeing a monarch, here in Massachusetts. I am an artist/naturalist and know monarchs well. I drew what I saw, for a record. WHERE did this monarch come from. What generation has it gone through, to reach Mass? Or did it winter over? cwleslie38@aol.com
