Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 05/06/2007

Number: 1

8:45 a.m.~~My Baltimore Orioles are back. Because of the strong winds we've been having, one of our eave spout extensions had been blown off. I put my rain gear on and headed outside to fix it. As I stepped outside, I heard this beautiful singing and realized that my Orioles were back. As I was fixing the extension, I saw an Oriole fly off into our wooded area and also heard one up in a tree by our house. I then proceded to refill the grape jelly feeders (the finches cleaned them out and the robins like the jelly too),I put fresh orange halves out, and replenished the suet feeders with short strands of horse hair.~~I enjoy watching the Orioles at the suet feeders, tugging on the horse hair to use for their pouch nests. Every winter when the trees are bare, I look for Oriole nests. The first nest I found lasted for about three years. This last winter I located their nest from last year. Last year I had about three pairs of Orioles. One pair stayed on our property, and the other two pair
