All Other Signs of Spring

Today a pair of rose breasted grosbeak's appeared on my safflower seed feeder. They spent a good part of the day chowing down. This is the first time I have ever seen this bird any place. The common goldfinches are in full color and still on the niger. I saw at least five males at the same time on or near the feeder. I'm not sure how soon they will take off for the season. Other birds, some year round, are obvious: cardinal, house finch, English sparrow, grackle, starling, turtle dove, blue jay, & robin. I may have spied a purple finch today, too, and we have a pair of hawks in the neighborhood. Occasionally, we hear mockingbirds, Carolina wrens, and hoot owls.
